Author Visit

The Lockport Public Library will host author, comedy writer, and newspaper columnist Laura Pedersen for what is sure to be an entertaining evening on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. in the Floor 2 reading room of the library. Her presentation will be followed by a book sale and signing. Laura will share observations about growing up in the area during the stagflation 1970s, the current renaissance that’s underway, and her upcoming title Buffalo Unbound, which celebrates the people and places of Western New York. Laura was the youngest columnist for The New York Times and the youngest person to have a seat on the floor of the American Stock Exchange. In 1994 President Clinton honored Pedersen as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Americans. She has appeared on numerous TV shows, including Oprah, The Today Show, and Primetime Live, and has performed stand-up comedy at clubs such as The Improv in Manhattan. Laura is the author of eight books, including Play Money, Buffalo Gal, and Beginner’s Luck. Go to www.LauraPedersenBooks.com for more information.

Laura grew up in Amherst, NY, where she attended Sweet Home High School and also the University of Buffalo. She now divides her time between Amherst and New York City, where she teaches at the Booker T. Washington Learning Center in East Harlem.

The Friends of the Lockport Public Library are sponsoring this presentation in celebration of National Library Week. Contact the library for more information at www.lockportlibrary.org or 433-5935. No registration is required.

Used Book Sales

Two sales are held annually--in Spring and Fall. This is a great chance to get books at a bargain basement price and to help the Library at the same time.  Sale proceeds are used to purchase new books, videos, and to sponsor interesting programs for the community.

Book donations are accepted at any library service desk or may be left at the foot of the stairwell inside the Chestnut Street entrance.

Year-Round Used Book Sale
